BUSY!
That is the only word to describe my life at the moment! Not that I'm complaining; it's awesome!
So, thought i'd give a little update as to what mischief I've been causing recently...
So last tuesday I had a lovely gig in Stratford-upon-Avon at Cox's Yard where they all looked after us very well (and even gave me a cheeky whisky or two). Then Wednesday came along and it was an early start as we had to make our way up The Gateway College in Leicester. It was such a lovely day; we gave a little talk to some of the students (I say 'we'; I could hardly get a word in edgeways with Iain there! ;) and then in the evening I played at the end of their showcase. It really was a pleasure to be a part of- there are none more enthusiastic and keen than students who are studying something they love. And they make an amazing audience! It was also great to see them all perform in the beautiful theatre space they have there. Thank you all at The Gateway for having me, and of course to Foz for making it all possible!
Thursday was the turn of The Bedford in Balham, which I have to say is one of my favourite places to play. Because the place has such a good reputation, there's always such a lovely attentive crowd. The room is beautiful too- an old Globe Theatre! It was a gorgeous evening, and to top it all off I got to see my wonderful friend Rachel! When you've been on the road for 3 weeks, and you've still got 3 weeks to go, it is the best feeling in the world to see an old buddy :)
Before I could barely even begin to catch up with Rachel, it was Friday and I found myself in Guildford perusing round the shops and occasionally very naughtily buying something. That evening I played at The Star which was a pleasure as always!
Saturday had finally arrived. I was looking forward to this gig all week. Haslemere! Ever since I played at the Haslemere Fringe Festival back in May, I've felt a strong affinity with the town. The audience are always so warm and friendly and make me feel completely at home. I am very happy to say that this gig lived up to previous experiences. In a museum full of smiley faces we had an evening which gave me a huge smiley face for a number of hours afterwards! Thank you to all the organisers for having me, with special mention to David O'Brien and Paul Ashton who are always so fantastically hospitable.
Then yesterday I was up in St. Albans! First of all I had a cute little radio interview at Radio Verulam which is tucked away above a yoga hall. Then in the evening we made our way to The Horn for the weekly open mic night which I was to be a 'featured artist' on. As the night got under way, it was pretty quiet, but gradually the punters trickled in and I was especially happy to see Tom from All About Promotions and Carl Scott from Ipswich (!) make an appearance! By the time I was to go on stage the room was bustling (I hasten to add this wasn't anything to do with me!!!). I had a wicked time on stage- everyone was in great spirits :) However, the highlight of my evening had to be 'Happy Jack'- a man of what must be 80 years who took to the stage for an awesome rendition of 'Shaking All Over'.
So that was my week!! And this coming week looks like it's going to be even busier! I'm off for a very exciting morning on Tuesday which involves getting my makeup done and clean clothes to wear (wahooo!!!!) and then I've got BBC Radio Suffolk on Tuesday evening, a gig in Ipswich on Tuesday night, Norwich on Wednesday, 2 radio sessions and a gig in Cambridge on Thursday, Newbury on Friday and Cheltenham on Saturday!!!! Gasp for breath!!!!
Thanks to those of you who've managed to make it along to a gig- it might sound silly but you don't know how much I appreciate an audience being there to listen. Makes me very happy.
