South-Westerly Shenanigans!
As some of you may be aware, I spent this weekend in the beautiful counties of Devon and Cornwall.
We set off on Friday to Falmouth where I had a radio session at a really cute radio station called Source FM. It was basically a tardis; from the outside it looked no bigger than the small peugeot we rolled up in, but inside it was extremely spacious and very plush indeed! I had loads of fun with Tash the presenter- what a lovely woman. She even bought me a little book full of inspirational quotes which she knew I'd appreciate as she'd been following my Facebook quoting sessions! Thank you so much for having me and for the lovely gift :)
After Source FM we headed to our B&B The Jacobs Ladder Inn (which I would thoroughly recommend for a bargain stay) before setting off to the gorgeous venue Miss Peapod's. It's the kind of place I would spend every hour of every day in if I lived there. Delicious, organic, home cooked food, lots of wine, an eccentric collection of teas and looking right over the harbour. The people were there were lovely too! The evening was glorious- what a great line up of music! Thank you so much to all the staff at Miss Peapod's and to Abee Hague and Aimee Wright for playing- was a pleasure to share the stage with you both.
Next morning, Iain and I started our day in true Cornish style- with a pasty for breakfast! You can see my yummy friend in the photo above. We then set off for Totnes in Devon where I had a great radio session with David Parsley at TotnesFM. I basically got to sit down for 2 hours, play all my favourite songs and talk about me. It was very self-indulgent but great fun!! You can listen back to the show at www.totnesfm.co.uk by going to 'Listen Again' and then 'Influence'. I then had a wander around the town; apparently Totnes is the 'hippyest town in the world'. It was all very quaint and lovely- lots of buskers and second hand book shops and tea rooms.
That evening was the turn of The 27 Club in Torquay, a brand new live music venue. Great night had so thank you to all who came along, to the venue for having us and of course to the lovely Sydney Church and Charley Pinfold for your wonderful music.
Sunday morning came and I woke up in a lovely little B&B in Plymouth called Kynance House (which I would also thoroughly recommend!!). After a suitably heart attack-inducing but equally yummy Full English Breakfast, I decided to go for an explore around the town as I had the whole day to kill before the gig at The B-Bar in the evening. Poor Manager Iain wasn't feeling very well so he stayed in his bed while I scoffed Rum 'n' Raisin ice-cream and read my book by the harbour. The evening was as delightful as I hoped it would be. It's the fourth time I've been to The B-Bar and I fall in love with it a little bit more on each return. Thank you Will and Josh for your sparkling hospitality (I had an endless supply of ginger tea and even a dance hall for a dressing room!!), Luke for your exemplary sound skills and to the fabulous support artists Bess howard-Baker, Josie Newton and Liam Ferguson. A fantastic evening was had by all.
It was my turn to drive home last night, so I quickly drank 2 triple-strength black coffees before setting off on the clearest, easiest drive ever. Was so lovely to just listen to the radio for a few hours drive wind around all the country lanes. I wasn't so ecstatic when I got home and continued to bounce off the walls until 6am when I finally managed to close my eyes before waking up again at 7am!!! Damn caffeine!! I feel surprisingly awesome this morning though! Let's see how long it lasts, ha!!
Anyway, so that was my weekend! Day off today and then tomorrow I'm heading to the wicked venue The Jam House in Birmingham and on Wednesday I'll be having my first experience of The Attic in Canterbury!
